Job Ad Conversation

Look at this job ad in the newspaper.

What ad are you talking about?

This one here on the right hand side. A company in the city wants a front desk receptionist to work full time Monday to Friday.

Yes, I see the ad. Are you interested in applying for this job?

Yes, I think I can get it. I also like to get a job in the city so I can use public transport.

Do you like using public transport to go to the city? You must be crazy. Trains and buses are always crowded during rush hours.

I have no other choice. I don’t have a car. Plus even people who drive in the morning find it difficult because the streets are crowded during rush hours.

Now back to the job. What does the ad say?

It says the company is looking for someone who is energetic to operate the front desk and meet customers who come to do business.

Is it a big company or a small one?

I am not sure but they have a branch in New Zealand too.

What are the duties of the person they want?

Every thing is mentioned in the ad here. They say they need someone to be able to handle calls from customers and work as a team player.

And why do you think you can get this job?

Oh, because I am a very good worker. I am highly presentable, highly experienced and I have good communication skills.

Will you be using your computer skills on the job?

Yes, I must know how to operate a computer and use different programs. I touch type very fast. I will put all this on my resume when I apply for this job.

Does the ad say how much you will be getting?

No, it doesn’t. I think companies don’t pay front desk receptionists much these days. I will be surprised if they pay me more than $20 an hour but I hope so.

Well, all the best for your job hunting. Email me and tell me when you’ll be having your interview so I can give you some advice. I’ve been to so many interviews and I know all the questions they may ask you.

Ok, I will. Now I have to go. I have to pick up my children from school. It is nearly three o’clock. I must be there before the bell goes off.

OK, see you later. Bye.

So long!
