Good afternoon everyone. My name is Michael Norman and today I will be talking about malaria. My presentation is divided into two parts. First of all, I will talk about how bad the disease is. After that I will talk about malaria today. Please feel free to ask questions at the end of the presentation. Now, let’s get started.
As you know, malaria kills nearly one million people a year. It is found in poor countries in Africa and Asia. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes. When mosquitoes bite a person, he or she can get malaria. There is no medicine that can cure people from malaria. The problem is really big in poor countries where people don't have good doctors or hospitals. The disease kills one child every 30 seconds in Africa. Big medicine companies don’t spend a lot of money on research to find a cure for malaria.
Now let’s move on to the second part of the presentation. It is clear that we need to do a lot of things to control malaria. Some poor countries in Africa started getting help from some rich people to control the disease. People started to use nets to protect them from mosquitoes. Students in poor countries started learning about the dangers of mosquitoes and how malaria can affect their health badly. Scientists need to study malaria more and try to find a solution to the problem so people can be healthy.
It’s nearly time for me to finish the presentation. I would like to thank you for coming here today. Now if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.
Listen to your classmate and fill in the gaps:
